Sad I used off brand ink and now it's mad at me and won't print. It Go through the motion but will not put ink on paper.

Should I buy Epson genuine ink to see if it will work again or is the printer messed up for good? Or will I just be wasting money $75.00

Thanks

Michelle,

Richard has a chemical that will help restore ink flow but the whole process takes a steady hand and a understanding of how the ink is printed onto the paper.

PM me and I will send my phone number so you can call and discuss some other options. That would be much easier than me writing a book about it typing with two fingers.

I have said this before and I will say it again for the folks that might have missed it.............. failure to print something, anything with full color at least every other day can render the inkjet printer into dumpster fodder.

I am having a slight banding on my black ink, with the 1100
I print ever day, I have done the head cleaning and checked my ink supply in the refillable carts,, i also have recharged my ink,,

Any suggestions, of anything else I should try? Its not bad but off a lil, but i would not use it to print a transfer or  screen neg like this.

Are you printing on Photo or Photo/Text??

When you print a nozzle check how many squares are not printing.

Switch the two black carts and print the black JPG on BEST PHOTO.

THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO THE PAPER TOWEL TRICK.

I'll PM my phone number so I can talk you thru that process.

As Ken said -- do a nozzle check.  And always best to do one before you start print jobs for the day, or even later if some banding occurs.

As I understand it, printing less than 'best photo' settings is only using half the print head.  So, if you have a segment in the nozzle check that isn't printing, the almost sure way to clear it is to print the pure color (black, yellow, mag, cyan, etc) on best photo settings, and set the printer color management to icm, off (no adjustments).  This ensures you print only from that particular color cartridge (not a mix) so you don't waste ink, and that ink flows to all nozzles.  You will have to select a premium paper setting such as matte but you can still print to regular plain paper (it should be able to absorb the extra ink).

My 1100 prints horizontal black lines thru out my printouts.  Head cleanings & nozzle checks have not helped thus far.  What's the paper towel trick and will it help in my case?  (Using Cobra ink w/refillable carts)

How long did you let the printer sit without printing.

The paper towel trick is to saturate a folded paper towel in Simple Green or other nonrubber damaging chemical, hit the ink button when the heads park, Gently slide the print heads over it , move it back and forth, repeat as often as necessary. Follow the print one color suggestions here. Do a forum search for other posts of this topic.

I will try to amass the multitude of posts and links on this topic and have Lou sticky them so they can be easily found.

It hadn't sat at all. I refilled the carts then had black horizontal lines on every printout since then.  Luckily I have an C120 as backup (that is until I get an oversized inkjet heat transfer order).

I'll search for other posts on the paper towel trick to gain a better understanding before trying.

Fingers crossed,

Print the nozzle check.
See what color has missing squares.
Create a 8 x 11 100% color test print of that color.
Do two head cleanings.
print the color that is not complete at Best Photo, matte paper.
90% success rate

The paper towel is cleaning the residue buildup under the print head. It helps eliminate blobs of ink on the paper, in some cases. It is only used in extreme cases where it is useful to soak the heads. There are other procedures that can be used with less trauma.

What you most likely have is air in the cartridge filter. Anyone installing ink for the first time will benefit from viewing this video. Trapped air in the filter will continuously give you grief. It must be purged.

This page from Cobra Ink has a couple of videos on the far right hand side of the page. Review the one that talks about running the cart out of ink.

http://www.cobraink.com/supportphotos/support.htm

I could write a book about the care and maintenance of Epson printers with Dye Sub or Pigment ink. I would have to thank many, many folks that helped me in my initial learning curve.

To refill the carts, I remove the plug (see red arrow in pic), insert ink using syringe then re-insert plug.  Is this the wrong hole?

Also, I followed Ken's instructions (nozzle check, print, 2 head cleaning, print best photo w/matte & icm). It is the yellow cart that's giving me grief & I still have the horizontal black lines. I watched Cobra's video & ordered the priming syringe too.

I guess running totally out of ink is another bad habit that I have.

I'm learning a lot.

You can acomplish the same thing with a standard syringe.it is just a little messier.

Fill the cart 3/4 full.
Insert the standard syringe without the needle in the bottom of the cart where the cart fits into the printer nipple. This has a ball check valve in it.

Attempt to draw out about 2cc of ink. You may have to wiggle the syringe a little to release the check valve. You have now pulled ink into the filter of the cart, removing 90% of the air in it..

Check the contents of the carts every morning, fill to the top and do a test print. That will help to lengthen the life of the printer and avoid headaches.

Great info ken as always and
yep you are filling the right hole,

i followed kens tip for hooking up the syrainge without the needle to the bottom of my cart to get my cart from leaking ink when out of the printer,,
it sucked that gasket thing back where it needed to go and works like a charm,,
