Just curious, is anyone using Pinterest as a marketing tool for their business? I've been reading some good things about the site, and one of them has been that it can be a great marketing tool for businesses who use it properly.  I'm thinking of setting up an account for EnMart,  and just wondered if anyone has used Pinterest in that way,  and what the results were if anyone has.

I signed up last Friday and by the following Monday had a couple orders from my products that are shown on their site. I still don't understand all the workings of their site but learning.

It seems to be getting a lot of attention on the net.

Uncle Remus, I'm with ya.  That site makes no sense to me.

I've looked at it a few times, but I didn't look closely enough to really understand it. I was looking for ways to drive traffic to my sewing blog.

I started the blog a couple of years ago as a way to post tutorials, and info for my sewing students, and now I'm trying to expand my reader base. I'm not sure how posting my projects, and tutorials there will drive traffic to my blog.

I post projects on ThreadsMagazine.com, BurdaStyle.com, and a few on Instructables.com. Instructables, and Burda seem to get the most views and do drive some traffic to the blog.

Oh yea...I almost forgot to hijack your thread, and self promote here  Wink

The idea behind Pinterest, as I understand it, is that it's a place where you can post all the interesting or unique things you find on the web and then everyone who sees you account can see these things all in one place.  You can use images or links,  and create groupings for particular interests.  Your groupings are called boards.  I could, for instance,  create a grouping for items that were created with EnMart products and then could "pin" images of those products to that group.  It's mostly a way to organize information that would otherwise be scattered.

I haven't done a lot with it yet,  but it looks interesting.

This is a brilliant concept and can be used to market once you understand it.

I've posted some of my sewing stuff on there, and it has driven a small amount of traffic to my blog...every little bit helps...especially when it doesn't cost anything to be a member.

I actually created a couple of boards and have had people repin some of the stuff I put up.  It's not driving huge amounts of traffic yet,  but I haven't spent a lot of time with it.  I can see where it does have a lot of possibility.

I see you're there now, Sandy Jo.  You could do some awesome stuff with creating boards for different aspects of rhinestones.

I had ignored this thread when it first came up, but a friend sent me a link to something on the site.  I was hooked and literally spent HOURS looking at stuff.  Guess I will be joining and making my own boards too Smiley

Hey Sandy, look for the rhinestoned mixer :LOL

It is really easy to get sucked in.  Mostly, at this point,  I'm using Pinterest for work,  which means I should be sticking primarily to garment decoration stuff.  Last week I saw a picture for a casserole that looked really good and ended up looking at pins of recipes for a while.  Pinterest can be a time suck if you let it,  but I guess that could be said of most social media sites.

Pinterest is totally addicting!

My daughter got me hooked on it. I could spend hours there.

We are making a crafting desk from a tutorial we found there for my studio next weekend. I have hunted all over for just the right one...to no avail.
This one is perfect for my sewing area.  We also have found some great recipes for making our own soaps...food recipes...OH instructions how to make roman shades... money saving ideas.. all of which we've tried out and it's worked GREAT.
There are tons of ideas for organization and storage too.. our next endeavor for my jewelry making desk.

Has anyone heard about how Pinerest can get you sued for copyright infringement?  Here is an interesting article http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/how_you_could_get_sued_for_using_pinterest.php

Read for yourself, Me personally, I don't think I want anyone selling my photo's for their own profit.  Because of this I won't be using Pinterest anytime soon, if at all.

ScottO

Scott,  Pinterest now offers code that websites can use if they don't want their images to be pinned.  While it's true you could be sued for copyright infringement if you pin someone's image,  Internet usage standards make it likely that won't happen.  It's kind of the same theory as linking to someone else's blog post on your blog.  As long as proper attribution is given,  which Pinterest does by linking back to the original site where the image was found,  chances are you won't have an issue.

If you are concerned about copyright,  you can use Pinterest's code and prohibit people from pinning images from your site.  For most people, though,  Pinterest is a good thing and can help drive traffic.

Here's an article about why most people should not prohibit their images being pinned.  http://www.blogworld.com/2012/02/21/should-you-block-pinterest-on-your-blog/
