Uncle,

I doubt the cutter would handle that thickness or the material.

There are several shapes available, what is your shape to cut to??

Its going to be an outline of an off-road club logo...I am putting the logo on a magnet using vinyl & then contour cut the outline.

I have been doing some research on this since my post, & i have read that it is possible or people claim to have did it, but have not got any specifics on the settings yet.

OK.. what thickness, are we talking about business card stock thickness or car magnet??

I think the settings on my Copam would be 300+ grams of down force and maybe more, slow speed. The blade would most likely be a 60 degree, Roger has them.

I have a interest in this project so please keep me in the info loop.

Thanks!!!

I'm not a very good student.  Ken has repeatedly taught us to take notes on what we test....but I have no notes.  Sorry.

I remember, though, that I cut magnet sheets in an attempt to use them for rhinestone templates.  They cut -but not hundreds of tiny circles.  I know I had to reset the blade depth.  The blade didn't quite go all the way through, it "scored" it sufficiently so that large designs broke apart easily.

Do I remember correctly that someone on here cuts refrig magnets?  Maybe they will chime in?

I suspect refrig magnet thickness would cut........ several new blades and press the material on a bit of transfer tape to form some kind of backer to allow full cut but not into the nylon strip and maybe "Circuit" sticky plate thingy......... experiment, boldly go where............

i plan to cut 30 mil magnets (car magnets)

I am going to call graphtec in the AM & see what they say. Its still under warranty  Grin

I have read anything from sure they cut it no problem to someone who claims it will kill the cutter.

The ones who claim to have did it say they just scored it with the cutter & either just broke it off or finished cutting with an exacto, they just put app tape on the back to keep the magnet from sticking to the rollers.

I will let everyone know what i find out.

you only need to score the mag, not cut through it. it will come apart when you bend it.

your cutter needs to handle the weight of the material. our lp24 does not. it will give an irregular shape.

what we do is print or cut our graphic and then cut by hand the mag.

if it is square or rectangle, we use a manual cutter. for irregular shapes we use a sharp knife, a 7.5 diopter goggle (Braille institute has them) and a cutting pad.

Be sure and get your client to sign a waiver holding you NON Liable for the magnet flying off at 60 miles and hour as well.

This topic of custom car magnets has been discussed several times over on a sign forum (won't post name so Lou don't kick my butt).  Always get a waiver signed as most people will not take the proper steps to maintain a magnet on a vehicle and it will fail and come off.

Rounded corners and lots of material left in the logo.  The more magnet material you have left the less the chance of it lifting while driving.

It's best to try and sell your client on regular vinyl install if you can, if not.....GET THAT WAIVER!!!!

I talked to Graphtec today & they do not recommend cutting magnetic material with my cutter, they recommend a FC2250 flatbed cutter ( well i guess they would @ $10-14K ).

But they didnt tell me not to cut it, just didnt recommend it... Grin

Now to get me some cleancut blades

car mags are easy to cut out without a cutting. just a safety straightedge, a razor in a holder and a flat table with a cutting pad will do it. You can buy a corner rounder or do it yourself by hand too.
