I'm sorta stumpted on this one. These are some stickers I am attempting to print on Papilio waterproof vinyl. They were printed on a Epson 1400 using claire inks and then laminated with oracal clear vinyl.

It looks to me as though moisture is getting between the clear overlay vinyl and the print, but in looking at the stickers they look to be very well sealed. I put these outside on a piece of glass and had them facing south into the sun for 3 days.

I also make these same stickers on my Roland sp300 and laminate with the same material and have had these stickers out on customers vehicles and windows for over 3 years and have never had a problem with them. I though I'd try a quicker less expensive method of making them but don't like they way they are turning out.

Kinda of anxious to get our new Epson 1100 up and running with pigment inks and see if that works any better.

aaahaaa, water vapor. Looks like ink is running. How quick do you put them one after you finish. Only a thought.

I let them dry for 24 hours, as I do the prints from the sp300 also.

It has to be the ink. That seems to be where your problem is. Not on the parts that do not have ink.

I use Oracal 290 laminate on them, which is about the best clear uv laminate money can buy.

Got the WF1100 today and just printed up some decals with it using the pigment inks. We'll see how they work out.

I must say the folks at Cobra Inks do an excellent job of installing the ink system, very pleased with the purchase.

Binki,

Where do you purchase your clear jet?
Texascraft is the USA dealer for Papilio. They have the adhesive vinyl by the roll and the complete line of Papilio products.

I have had good success with all my imprinting using Cobra ink and several WF1100 printers.

If I were to guess the claire inks would be my thought. Design mostly for office printing. I would i9magine that the pigment inks will work fine. I have used pigment on papilio without even using laminate and had it in the weather on the Tattoo shop window over 2 years without fading.

I do believe you are right. I printed up (2) decals with the same style design using the same laminate. Let them set outside facing the sun and within 1 day the one printed with claire inks was doing the same thing it did before (ink running) but the one with the pigment inks looks as good as it did coming out of the printer. I'd still like to see it sit outside for a few more days just to make sure.

I did order some spray on laminate from Papilio the other day to see how that works out. The Oracal laminate is ok but its a bit pricey.

The spray laminate works pretty good I just did the one with no laminate to see what happened and 2.5 years later when we closed the shop it still looked great.

I'm having excellent results using the 1100 with pigment inks makeing decals, but I printed up a transfer on jpss paper tonite and noticed when it came out of the printer it had a glossy look to it....the ink was not quite dry. Any idea how long a person should let these pigment ink prints dry before pressing them on the tshirt?

If the ink is not dry exiting the printer you might be over saturating it. I always look at a test print using black as the guide. I use either photo or photo/text when I print heat transfer.
I will usually give the ink 2 minutes to dry out.
In either case a wash test will tell the story

I was using the color profile for jpss paper that was downloaded from cobra inks website. Maybe it needs a little tweeking yet.

I don't use a color profile, there wasn't one available when I first purchased Richards ink.

The results I get with Cobra heat transfer and high temp inks please a very picky local artist so I am content with them.

in Photo Shop

click Edit
color settings

working spaces=
RGB = Adobe 1998
CMYK = usweb coated swop 2
GRAY = gray gama 2.2
SPOT = dot gain 20%

color management policies=
convert to working RGB
convert to working CMYK
convert to working gray

name & save

When printing=

Printer manages color
rendering = relative colormetric

Photo or text/photo selected depending on test print.

Insure printer color settings match the above.

I can't speak to Corel settings as I do not print from that software.

Over saturation will look great in heat transfer........... until after the first washing. Excess ink blends/runs/fades looks like crap.

I used to use JPSS but the supplier I worked with didn't even like it. I switched to Conde's ElastaJet. It has better qualities, and less poly shadow/residue, IMHO.

Thanks for the tips Ken. I have never used profiles either, but this one was available to I thought I'd try it. I did press the print onto a shirt today and It turned out very well...now to the washing machine for the real test.
