http://www.papilio.com/laser%20bake%20on%20water%20slide%20decal%20paper.html

I ordered and received samples of this paper from Papilio.  Has anyone here tried this paper?  I'm looking for tips & suggestions.  My plans are to test this on a plate.  I have 2 concerns (but perhaps I should have more?):

1.  Directions say this paper was designed for the HP2550.  I have an Oki.  I'm a little concerned because the directions caution to test using the "plain paper" setting in order to keep the fusing temps low.  If I recall, Oki has higher-than-other-printer-fuser-temps?

2.  Directions call for the finished item to be baked in an oven "with the decoration facing the door."  Wonder if the plate setting such that the decoration facing the top of the oven will make a difference?

I have not tested this paper but thank you for showing it to us.

The paper was designed for the HP2550 using that printers type of toner but it might work with the OKI.

The fuser temps on an OKI are unknown so all you can do is test various settings, but start with the printer default setting. I use an OKI C6150 so I have a real interest in your results.

For plates, you need to create something that will hold them in the vertical position. perhaps another oven shelf set sideways and cut to fit the width on top of one with spacers between would work. Looks like a trip to the appliance scrap yard and a grinder is in your future.

I would grab a bunch of MUGS (already vertical print, easily placed facing the door) and do your testing.

The fact this the claim of "dishwasher safe" of a DECAL intrigues me and could open many new items for us to market.

I like the idea of testing with mugs, and I have a great local source for .15 mugs!  Off to town I go.  Keep your fingers crossed!

That would be a great addition to the profit margin if they would work with the OKI AND would stand up to dishwashing!!

What OKI do you have??

Back from town.  Mugs have increased to .25, but they had a few different colors of blank mugs to choose from.  (Typically their mugs have printing on them that must be removed.)  And my bonus buy: .25 blank mouse pads, .25 clear wine glasses, and .14 ceramic tiles.  If this paper works (praying that it at least doesn't melt my printer drum or something), then I'm back to town for cases of blanks!

I have the Oki 3300.  That's what Oki recommended given that its primary use is in a home office where it sits for days without use.

Hoping to have some pictures tomorrow!

Don't use this paper with Oki c330dn!  Fatal error - I believe it ruined the fuser unit.  Used regular settings, except that I sent it through the straight paper path.  This is no reflection on the paper - just that it's not compatible with the paperweight formerly known as my printer.  Just kidding (sorta).

Anyone here have an HP2550?

Tell me what happens when you print a simple text test page on plain paper with the OKI............. The fuser gum up IS recoverable.

Set the print weight to heavy and print 10 to 15 sheets of plain paper. remove the fuser module and check the rollers. repeat until the rollers are clear.

I found sources for refurbished units.............http://www.amazon.com/HP-Color-LaserJet-2550N-Printer/product-reviews/B0001X6V36/ref=cm_cr_pr_hist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar

HOWEVER........ after reading many many negative reviews on the unit, I would call Papilio and inquire as to what other printer has been successfully used with the paper.

I had 2 test pages to print.  1 was b/w, 1 was color.  I successfully printed them each to plain paper using the straight path.  Deep breath.  Loaded one sheet of water slide paper.  Attempted to print the b/w page.  As soon as the page disappeared into the printer I received the following message:

SERVICE CALL
980:ERROR

I immediately turned off the printer and started removing its guts.  Couldn't find the paper!  Kept going.  Still nothing.  Finally found it wound around what I believe (after a few minutes on Google) is the fuser unit.  Very hot.  While still hot, I began removing the paper.  (Thank you to my very patient husband who finished removing the paper and gently suggested I not try that again.)

I let it all cool off, and reassembled the printer.  Ran into a problem with another part (springy bar thing above the ink?).  It fell off!  Nothing can be simple.  Anyway, I think I got it all back together correctly.  It all clicked into place it closes nicely - no forcing.  Turned it on.  Same error message.  Let it sit for approx an hour to rest, cool off, reset, whatever - turned it on.  Same error message.

I will Google for pics of the part that fell off to ensure that I got it back together correctly.  There's one above each color, and the one I "fixed" looks like the others now - but I want to be sure.

Then I will tackle the next part of the problem.  Perhaps there's a way to override the error and force it to try and print a page.

Note to self (and others who may learn from my mistake): call the folks who make/sell the paper you wish to test and talk to them before doing something not specifically recommended!

Non-compatible printers: Samsung, Dell, Minolta, Ricoh, Oki, high end Xerox.

Papilio states that the list of compatible printers is long.
Works with Brother, though the rollers leave indentations which appear concerning immediately out of the printer.  These don't appear to have any negative effect on the final product.

They recommend HP - something in the 1580 series works well.

I had a "fatal error " #xyz.  I called OKI US and asked for tech help. The tech told me the fan for the fuser had quit functioning. I bit of fussing and fuming and the fan started fanning once more.

Call them and give them the error code. That way you at least know what is nonfunctioning.
