I am running a pretty big job this weekend and I decided to go with the Cobra ink. I ran out of magenta mid run, pulled out the spent one, waited about 10 minutes and put the pre-filled Cobra magenta Code 69 in. Epson status monitor comes up with "ink cartridge cannot be recognized". I must be doing something stupid or something. Someone with experience with WF1100 & Cobra refillable ink cartridges please help me! Shocked

I was away from the computer. Have you resolved this issue??

If not, I need more info, but try this.
BTW, I wse an old bit of mouse pad to activate the printer cover interlock so I can see the operation of the print heads. The printer will not print if the cover is open you must fool the interlock.

If you have mixed Epson and Cobra carts for the other colors, put the Epsons back in. Shut the printer off, turn it back on. When it tells you that magenta is empty, press the ink button to move the heads to the access position. When they reach the spot unplug the printer.

Replace all the carts with the Cobra ones. Plug the printer back in. It will do a self check and tell you all the carts are empty by the fact the print head will be stopping at each color. Press the ink button each time to advance. When the heads reach the center, open the head cover, lift each cart out of it's slot by about 1/2" (you are just breaking the contacts from the printer heads to the PC board on the carts). Count to 20 and gently click them back in. press the ink button and the printer should do a self test and short prime/clean step.

Let me know how this works out for you.

First of all I wouldn't mix the Epson and Cobra Carts. I would replace them all at once. I have refillable carts on mine and had some troubles with this the first few times. I ended up just having to, press the ink button, remove the cart, let sit for about 3-5 minutes, replace cart, close covers, and press ink button again. Hope this helps some. I don't check here often so if you need help, feel free to email me at info at nvusdezign dot com.

Wow Ken thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately, I can not test your method until after 5:30 EST. I thought I have tried everything, but this is different. What becomes of my full Epson carts? Do I have to do this everytime?

I was not aware of the "no mix rule". It seems to work like clockwork for everyone else. I have tried almost every variation of what you suggested. No dice. Ken offered a method I have not tried yet. I will post results. Frankly, I'm surprised that no one else has run into this. Thanks, cbsuperduty, I might take you up on the email option if nothing else works.

You can't mix aftermarket carts with Epson carts. That was posted elsewhere but the post was not stickied so it fell to the bottom.

Your Epson carts can be put in a zip lock bag for storage in a medium temperate area. You will collect plenty of them as you purchase new printers.

Any new printer is set up and the ink heads charged with the Epson ink. The original carts are removed, per my post and replaced with the aftermarket ones.
There are plenty of us that use refillable carts. We can get you started and keep you running.

Ken that worked like a charm! How, may I ask, did you figure that one out? Anyway I'm back at it. Thanks again Ken and everyone else for putting up with my panicy posts and helping me solve it.

I am very pleased that you are back on track.!!

I learned many of the tricks and procedures via some of the ink supplier web sites, some of the other forums and a bit of trial and error.

Best wishes.
