Folks, prayers needed for those living in Joplin MO.  They were just hit by a massive tornado.  My son and his family live in Mount Vernon just east of there but we have heard from them and they are ok.  It hit a hospital in Joplin and devestated the city.  My son is an EMT and will probably be heading that way if he isn't already there.

The storm is still on the ground heading east toward my area.  Looks like the tornado part will go south of me here....I hope.  I'm on the local volunteer fire department and all storm spotters have been put on standby.  So, I'll probably have a long night.

I hope everyone that may be on here doesn't have loved ones in the path of these storms.  The people that are need your prayers folks.  It's bad.......

It looks absolutely devastating. Parts of the hospital are just piles of rubble. Sounds like Walgreen, Home depot also took a direct hit.
Prayers....

This is really a bad one...Most recent reports I have received say at least 24 fatalities and there are surely more to find. Here is a link to a youtube video show the utter destruction

Yeah, at least 24 dead as charles said.  My son is there working in triage right now.  Said it looks like a war zone.  I know many emt's and paramedic's who are on they're way out there now or to other towns and cities to cover for those units going to Joplin.

The storm went south of us here but is now got another tornado warning for the town where my wife works, about 45 miles southeast of us here.

So, it ain't over yet folks.  Keep these people in your prayers tonight and in the days ahead.

At least 89 dead is what they are saying this morning.  Plus more storms on the way toward Joplin and our region again this morning.

I saw some pictures of the devastation this morning.  It's horrible.

I hope everyone else stays safe and these storms finally quit!  This has been a terrible tornado season.

Just getting rain here today....thank goodness.....Feel real bad about the poor people in Joplin and surrounding communities as they continue to go on with this devastation.  Tornado's happen all year round here in Missouri.  Usually seems like the worst are in the fall early winter time.....not this year.

Here in St Louis, we did have a very scary storm around lunch time. I made the customer step into the back room and away from all the glass windows. The building felt like it was shaking and I am sure much of my sense of alarm was fueled by the scenes from Joplin. Very dark - high winds - raining sideways. Ugh.

as a relative young'n I was a survivor of a tornado in Cape Girardeau Mo in the spring of 1949 and again in one in Waco Tx in the spring of 1953...and I have been California for over 50 plus years on and off and there have been about 4 significant earthquakes ...none of which was very close to me...so last year there were over 500 tornadoes in the US and so far this year there have been over 1000....I think I will stay in 'ole shakey' ...seems to me it is much more safe in quake county than tornado alley

Charles, you forget that those are doppler radar reported tornadoes, not actual on the ground tornadoes.  Everytime there is a clap of thunder it seems like they are putting out a tornado warning anymore.  I really feel that is one of the reasons so many people were caught off guard Sunday night in Joplin.....People don't pay any attention anymore as the weather service is always crying wolf.

116 fatalities and still more buildings to sift through.  There will probably be more.  1500 unaccounted for, but they said most of those probably have just left the area and not reported their whereabouts.

More storms coming.......

I agree with Craig.  When I was a kid, a tornado warning would send us to the basement because it meant that a funnel was headed our way.  Now a warning sends us outside to look because it means that a radar spotted a funny cloud.

For those that use Bison Tile for their dye-sub tiles, they are fine and so are all of their employees.   They are located in Joplin.  Paul posted at DSSI that they are without internet and will be for some time, so if you need anything to please call directly.

Lou, you can keep your tornados!  We don't want them here.

I heard there have been several other tornados in other states that have killed several people.  Looks like another wild spring weather season..... Embarrassed

Death toll last I heard in Joplin was 125.  Still several people unaccounted for...

We were in our storm shelter at work this week too. Look at this pic. It's hard to tell in with my crummy cell camera, but the cloud had a lot of green in it.
