I have have been asked many times to design and shirts for people. I was wondering if there are some guidelines I should follow. General practices. What is fair as far as % to the customer after cost and time?

Any input would be appreciated. Thx

thats a hard question to answer....it depends on a lot of variables.
How you plan to print the shirts - screenprint, dye-sub, inkjet transfers, apparel vinyl, etc...
What your overhead cost are - rent, electric, etc....everybody is different
Where you are located also affects the prices you can get....

there are several pricing calculators around that can help you, but i am drawing a blank right now on where to find them...

Yeah I know this was a loaded question. I am looking at three different options for this customer.

Small Runs w/ thermal vinyl

Custom transfer from places like pro-world and dowling

And Screen Printed Locally

the customer would like some shirts to hand out personally and then want me to sell them online for him on my site.

I was hoping to try find the commons % or cost and balance. then I can figure in my own time and cost.

I really have no idea what a fair sales commission off each shirt if the I created the designs and sold them. And If I am making money off someone else name what is fair royalty on that. and how would that balance id I am also cutting them a deal on shirts form them to hand out themselves. Plus do I consider what they would sell the shirt for compared to what I would sell a shirt to my customers for.

to help with apparel vinyl pricing i would suggest Rogers calculator www.heatpressvinyl.com ( it's on the left close to the bottom)

On transfers i always try & double what they cost me....

Outsourced screenprinting would depend on what your printer charged you & then mark it up to meet your needs ( 20-35%) or whatever you feel comfortable with....

As far as commissions per shirt - that would depend on how much it cost to produce verses how much your selling them for....I have some of mine in stores & they make about $5 per shirt sale & they seem happy with it...

Hope this might help out some, but remember i live in rural Texas so you may be able to get more or maybe less depending on where you live & how much competition you have around

no problem....we do offer discounts for quantity, we do merchandise for several bands & they normally order 100 shirts & we sale them to them for $8.50 ea. & they sell them at their shows for $15-$20....
We always try to make at least $5 per shirt profit or it's just not even worth doing, sometimes we make a little less if it's for a good cause....
