Hi!

Bought my Cobra High Temp inks and refillable carts a few weeks ago.  Richard helped and they were delivered safe and sound to the UK.  This week I finally got round to buying my Epson 1100 (B1100 as it is branded in the UK).

The printer arrived today!  Just filled the carts for the first time, and installed them in the printer.  Powered up and I'm getting a flashing orange light on the Ink button, and the power button is also flashing.

Have tried various things, removing and restting the carts a few times.  Switching off and leaving for a few minutes.  Am just about to try uninstall and reinstall of drivers, and all printer software.

Is this just the Epson refusing to recognise a non Epson cart?  How do I get past that if it is?

Anybody got a likely fix?

Many thanks

NEVER start a new printer with aftermarket carts.

Find the carts that came with the printer and remove the Cobra carts. Install the stock ones and do a couple of test prints using this 4 color test jpg. You can use the other one to check your colormatch setup profile.

I use :
Plain white paper
all input jpg profile set to ADOBE 1998
color management to ADOBE 1998 Gama @ 2.
use either text/photo or photo depending on what you are going to print.
printer handles color
relative colormetric

Buy the BEST paper you can afford.
Buy the HARDEST coating on the hard surfaced items. Sri Lanka tile is very consistent in the coating.

Richards ink is great and the results are consistent.

I own six of these printers and I wouldn't trade any of them. Four are Epson refurbished units. All have well over 2000 print cycles each.

I'll help you further if you need it. Mostly just experiment and have fun.

Ken,

Well I never knew that. Usually I do start off with the standard cartridges, but because I was going to use the Cobra High Temp ink, I thought it would be best not to get other ink in there first - and I could sell the Epson carts on eBay

Have installed the Epson carts that came with the printer, and it is rattling away in the background as I type - just charging the system I guess.

So, kudos and many thanks for that.

Supplementary questions, when I want to put the Cobra carts in, how do I flush the ordinary ink out of the system?  Is it viable to switch between carts (normal ink and high temp) on a regular basis?

Thank you Charles.

You can purge the system of the stock ink easily. Install The Cobra ink carts, then just print 5 copies of the 6 color jpg at Best Photo Ultra glossy paper setting. Use plain paper, don't waste your Sub paper.
That will pull 80% of the stock ink out of the heads and reservoir.

Print a couple of the other jpg as well. You will note that the color is muted using sub ink. That is no worries. It will become vibrant after heating.

I would NOT suggest switching back to the stock ink.
Purchase another Epson with 4 color heads like the C-120, WF 30, WF40. The stock carts and refillable carts are exactly the same as the WF1100.
Go to the Epson site to verify the newer printers cart numbers. I am sure there are more of them.

Then buy some PIGMENT ink and refillable carts from Richard. You just created a heat transfer shop.
If you don't want a heat transfer shop, the purchase DYE ink and you have a shop that can print on JOTO's inkjet vinyl. Use that for making labels for your favorite winery.

Or just use it to print the hundreds of invoices you will be handing out to your new Sub customers.

I think I spoke too soon.  Hope Ken or someone else can help again.

Last time I wrote, the 1100 was going through the ink charging cycle after I had installed the stock cartridges.  I ran off a few sample prints and all was OK.  Anticipating no further problems, I decided to leave re-installing the Cobra refill carts until I was ready to use them - which was not untill a couple of hours ago.

I printed a couple more test prints, then removed the stock carts, and left them out for about 5 mins.  Then I re-installed the refill carts, and I got the message - "The installed cartridge is incompatible with this printer".  The ink light is lit, and I can only Cancel or Quit.  I have tried the cycle a few times, but it will not pick up on them.

Anyone know of a simple fix?

Press the ink lite button. There is a color swatch on the printer next to the cart carriage. The carriage will move to the color of the cart the printer has issues with. This may be all of them. When the carriage stops on the color press the button again. The carriage will move to the open area. Open the lid on the ink carriage, release and lift up the cart(s) that were indicated. Push them back down and press the ink button again.

BTW for ease of mtc, I introduced a scrap of mouse pad to the printer cover switch and leave it open during the day.

Ken, Thanks for that.  I have tried it a few times, but I will persevere for a few more.  Is this something that might just clear on the 10th attempt?

No, it would have cleared the first time. I will try to refresh my feeble brain and come up with with more suggestions.

Richard at Cobra can talk you through the issue on the phone. That is always the best way to resolve this type of issue where the first thoughts don't pan out. I realize that will be an expensive phone call, but I think it would be worthwhile.

Uncle Remus,
They are all clicking into place very positively, so I think they are well seated.  Perhaps I need the oil of Aphrodite and the dust of the Grand Wazoo?

Well it looks like the problem may be that the UK Epson Office B1100 is not quite the same as the USA Epson Workforce 1100.  Specifically, the cartridge chips are different.  Richard is trying to get some UK chips for me.

That first sublim print won't be too long now - I hope!

Thanks for all your inputs.
