Hey guys,
Since having the neck fusion surgery and since I still have low back issues that have not been resolved, I'm considering getting a new heat press.  I've always had back problems from running my press all day long.  I have the mighty press clam shell.

I'm wondering if anyone else has any suggestions on a press that might be easier to use, is affordable, and would help with the back issues.

I'm going to be getting out of this neck brace soon....(I hope) and am trying to keep from having to have surgery on the low back as long as possible.

So, anyone else have back problems and use a certain press to help with the problem?

Thanks!

You should look at an auto open unit. I think Roger has one on his site...or can get one...but they are not the cheapest and I think for back issues it might be worth it

well the perfect press would be auto close and auto open and I have them but they are pricey ,, the other would be a Geo knight auto open clam,, this machine has a big handle on it so the closing pressure is pretty smooth,, the price is going to depend on the size you need.. I don't have them on my site yet but I am a distributor

My wife is also recovering from neck surgery (for a broken neck ) and is experiencing lower back problems. My thoughts are with you for a quick recovery. Regarding the heat press, I would recommend a completely automatic but you are looking at over $3000, including an air compressor. Probably the best choice would be a Hotronix Auto Clam. You would have to lock down the handle which is fairly easy and the automatic open feature will prevent you from the effort needed to unlock the handle and raise it. Whatever you choose, printing shirts with a heat press is probably not going to be a comfortable experience for you.

My son is wanting to do some iron on transfers on shirts.  Can someone advise about a good reasonable starter heat press?  He really wants to do screen printing, but we have a septic system and I am worried about the chemicals.  Have looked into the thermal screen printing and it takes a lot of money to get started. Thought the iron on may give him the hobby he is looking for

Check out Lou's website. I have one of his 16x20 presses and they are both economical and manufactured to his specs. http://www.heatpressessentials.com/

I recently read a blog about how the height of the press will bother your back.  I wish I could find it again because it made a lot of sense.

Maybe in the short term, you can change the height of your press to help ease your back?

The height of the press and angle it closes (how high you have to reach) will make a VERY big difference at the end of the day. In my years of racing I have had some significant encounters with walls and tire barriers. Suffice it to say that I have to be cautious about how I bend, lift and stand. A cheap back support helps me when I have lots of pressing to do.

I raised all of mine up at least 6 to 8". I also slid their legs to the very edge of the table. This will only work if the press (clam shell) opens far enough to begin with......... some don't...... my MIGHTY MAX does.

I agree, this was our first choice but of course the price tag was the deciding factor but from what I hear its the best for your situation.

http://hixheatpress.com/n880.htm  I am not sure about finding any used one's I have yet to find one.

Hotronix, I would say was much easier for me to use (being the short one at the shop)
