Is there anyway for me to print Iron All for darks without the print looking like it was printed on osb board?  Do you know what I mean?!  Right off the press the image has textured lines all through it.  When I press, it shows on the shirt.  It looks so -- "I did it with my iron".  I'm ashamed to charge money for it.  I don't lay down as much ink as with the jpss.  Then my green looks faded.  I'm using an Epson C120 with heat transfer inks.  Too much ink smears.  3G from Neena is coming soon, but for now, I thought I would try my Iron All.  Please help.  Is there anything I can do?

Wow, someone still using Iron all? I was their biggest supporter back in the day. No longer.

You won't find many folks transferring on darks. The previous comments from Charles and Lou hit the mark. Both are very experienced imprinters.

However, lets see if we can help you at least get a decent print.

What mfg ink??
What printing software?
What printing profile??
What temp?
Can you create a JPG of the printout....... are you saying there are vertical lines in the print??
If you don't lay down enough ink, green looks faded?? Just the green??

Try printing this test sheet on plain paper with your exact setup as when you are printing on the transfer paper and let me know what the colors look like.

Lou,

If you don't support Iron All, do you have any other brand that you like or did you just go to vinyl for darks?

Ken,

Thanks for your help.  I realize it could be a lost cause, but it could still improve from it's present state.

What mfg ink??  ink comes from inkjetcarts.us - Ross refills

What printing software?  I am using epson's printer software with image from Corel Draw 12

What printing profile??  1. all the print options in the epson's printer properties section are unchecked, photo paper, plain paper bright white, ie high speed, black in only. . ., ICM is checked and Off (no color adjustment) is checked - this produces a darker green and this is what I use for light transfers which works fine. It produces a darker green  2. Iron All - paper -premium presentation matte, photo, print options - high speed is checked - color management - color controls is checked - brightness +5, saturation 0, contrast 0, cyan +5, magenta +5, yellow -15.  This second profile produces a lighter green.

What temp? 375

Can you create a JPG of the printout....... are you saying there are vertical lines in the print??  The print looks fine on plain paper - I think its the fact that the paper is not smooth and that is showing through.  It looks the same as when a child uses a crayon on paper over a textured object to get cool picture.
If you don't lay down enough ink, green looks faded?? Just the green??  Actually the whole pic is lighter.

I'll try to attach the file.  Beware I haven't done this before.

Thanks for your help,
Teresa

Teresa,

That was a supurb reply. Clear and concise.

I will be at my shop in a little while and I will replicate your settings on my printer....... I have some of the paper in question but I don't remember the texture of the print side.  I'll check on it and get back to you.

I use my laser printer when I do imprint on dark fabric.

The "texturing you see is the fault of the paper. I had two sheets of it and the result was the same no matter what I did. Examining the paper under a 10x loop I can clearly see the texture.

As for the colors........... they were excellent in shade and tone....BUT they were very over saturated (too much ink) all the way down to "text" setting with my set up.

I conclude you might try a different set up to print........ MATTE PAPER IS NOT A GOOD SETTING.......then once the colors are correct work with the new paper to print and reset as necessary.

My settings using a WF1100 with Cobra HT ink and Corel X4:

TEXT
PLAIN PAPER/PLAIN WHITE PAPER
LANDSCAPE
HIGH SPEED
EDGE SMOOTHING
COLOR CONTROL IS TICKED
COLOR MODE IS ADOBE RGB
GAMA 2.2
ALL COLOR SETTINGS ARE DEFAULT AT ZERO

There was still too much ink left on the surface of the paper even on text setting I suspect that the draft setting would almost work for proper ink saturation, but nothing will rid it of the texture.

Now I remember why I don't use this paper.........

Pro World has a nice paper for dark called 430 Clearsoft/Dark. You might stop by his web site and check it.

Ken,

Thanks so much for your time and your help.  Iron All is the only paper I have ever tried.  I order the clearsoft dark on yesterday.  It is in the mail.  We'll see.  I'll try your settings and see if they give me something I can be more satisfied with--you know something I wouldn't be ashamed to put my name on in public.  But if the paper is textured I'll never be able to get a smooth look.  I hope the clearsoft is better.  Good thing I didn't order a truck load.

Sure appreciate all the help,
Teresa
