I have a sketch that has been digitized for embroidery both for left chest and for a jacket back.  My question is if this could be done in vinyl for t-shirt backs.  If so, how would I go about doing it?  Any advice is greatly appreciated.

To do this in vinyl it will have to be a vector image.  To do the back of the tee I'd make sure that the text was at least 3/8"-1/2" high.
If the tee is a light color (white or ash) I'd go with a transfer.  No weeding needed.

I agree that a transfer might be best - certainly easier.

It's going on a dark shirt which is why I was thinking vinyl.  You'd think I'd know this stuff my now, but how do I get this vectorized?

It is able to be vectorized, but only with lots of work.

It would be quicker to send it to a vectorizing service to have it done professionally.

That being said, it can be done in Corel Draw if you know how to work it.  Still will take a lot of work though.

Transfers will be your best best if an option.

Good Luck!

You could also do this in vinyl, if you do it on a printer/cutter. I have a VersaCamm and the image could be printed on vinyl and them placed on the shirt. The only weeding would be to the inside of the design and around the outside. The horse head and the horseshoe would be what would be left to place on the garment. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your replys.  I just received CL dark premium from Joto, so after I get my brand-spankin'-new laser hooked up this weekend, I will give that a try.  You know, sometimes you already know the answer, but are hoping the answer won't be what you already know. :-)

I have used almost every paper Joto markets. They are all great products, but like anything new, they have a learning curve.

I would suggest that you select your image and print a couple of test prints with the laser. Follow Joto's printing instructions and above all make notes for future reference.

Once you have the print part mastered, cut a couple of them up into strips and press the strips on some tee shirt scraps, keeping notes as to time, temp and pressure. Staple the notes to the scrap for future reference.

Joto has a great customer service staff and they can talk you through any issues.

FredericDesign, I'm not sure if this would help you any, I know it's rough, but it's something you could possibly work with, and tweak. I also traced it with the horseshoe turned right side up. For those who are superstitious, so the luck would not fall out. If you need the file I can send it to you as a PDF, and you can extract it from that.
Just trying to help, let me know.

Sorry everybody, I have been very busy with the cold weather, ice, and snow here is Texas. Yes, I know, here in Austin, a little snow is a big deal. You should see how everyone turns into instant idiots when it comes to driving in less that a half inch of snow here. I also work with the maintenance dept. for the old Post Office and you can imagine how much fun bad weather causes for the trucks, building heaters, etc down here. I think we just brought the big storm down into Texas so the two Super Bowl teams would feel at home here.
(I already hear you all laughing!!)

In answer to those who asked about the VersaCamm, I would love to help anyone out that needs something I could provide such as stickers, decals, banners, etc. Just pm me with any questions

Hope all have been well in the time I have missed checking in.

Rod you are so awesome!!!  I will PM you with my email so you can send me the PDF -- I know I'll use it!  Incidentally, I tried to convince them that the horseshoe should 'catch the luck' . . .  Yes, I'm somewhat superstitious!!  I can't thank you enough for doing this for me.
