I would like the ability to add a few rhinestones to certain screen printed designs such as the one below. I watched some videos but they were using templates. I want to be able to place the rhinestones randomly without a template. Do the stones come with the glue on the back or is the white sheet pressed on the stones that places the glue? Or maybe there is a simpler way to attach the rhinestones???

Thanks

Christina

Hot fix stones have glue on back, so you can place and press.   Or use no glue stones and gem tak and glue individually - but wash test - does great on caps.

Hot-Fix rhinestones had the glue on the bottom...regular rhinestones do not and those are the ones you would use glue.
I have not placed stones ON screen printing...I am not sure they would adhere very long. Maybe some screen printers can address that

Thank you both for the info.

I screen print using water based ink that applies more in the fibers versus on top of the fibers. I just assumed the rhinestones would work fine but thanks for pointing out the potential issue

If we are doing just one or two shirts, we use thermal tape to place stones randomly.  If we have to make many, we scan the shirt into the computer and place the stones where we want them, in our design software, then we go ahead and cut a template so that we don't have to think anymore on each individual shirt  Smiley

Hope this helps!

We can help with that,, lol

Untill you get a cutter ,, you can also lay the shirt on a flat service, and lay the stones where you want them, then take the transfer tape and lay it on them, then transfer the shirt to the press,, and line the stones back up on the image,,

Water based inks make a great base for stones that is what i screen with as well,
Now heat press, and you are done,,

Another way is get a clear piece of transparency film,,
lay it over your  design,
Take a black marker and make the dots where you would like to see them,
You now have a pattern for hand setting,,,,,,,

Cant wait to see when you are done,,
The most important thing is Have fun,

I tried to apply stones to a plastisol print and they didn't stick very well.  Most came off in the washer and those that are left pick off very easily.  From what I understand they will stick quite nicely to water based prints, they just don't care much for the surface of a plastisol print.
