I found a used twin cap press on Craigslist - George Knight.  As usual, I'm doing things backwards.  I have purchased it, picking it up later in the week, and now I'm asking questions.  Duh.  Assuming the guy is being truthful, it works fine.  I don't know much about this brand, except that it's not a China-made e-bay special.  Photo shows few details.  Looks like a teal color - maybe that helps someone know how old this thing might be?  No mention of extra platens, etc.  For $50, could I really go wrong?  Now - please tell me all the things that are probably wrong with this likely-ancient piece of equipment....  Wink

Nice older model.

Look for structural abuse/damage. Check the swing between lower platens and the heating element. Check the down force pressure between the heating element and both platens. Look for frayed wires at both ends of the AC plug and heating element. Plug it in..... Good find if it works. I'll be rootin for ya!!!

I've never seen that particular model,  but Geo. Knight makes good presses.  Our business has several and they've been around for a while, and they still run very well.  Geo. Knight also has great customer service.

Good luck with this press.  Let us know how it works.

Whee -- I got lucky!!  $50 bargain is a success.  According to infrared thermometer the temp varies approx 5 degrees across it, and max temp appears to be approx 380 degrees so dye sub may be out of the question -- but it's going to work great for stones.  Wiring is in great shape, manual pressure adjustment is okay, setting the temp is a little tricky - but I marked my stone temp, timer works, and it swings between platens without a problem.  Gotta love Craigslist.

Test the dye sub on some swatches........... 375 to 400 is the usable range, depending on the ink used.
