Just what the title says.  I have some burnouts to print and have ordered some water based white ink for the job, just wondered if anyone had used plastisol with soft hand additive added and printed on burnouts.

I was thinking of trying it with maybe a 230 or 305 mesh.

Anyone?

I ordered some matsui white ink from ryonet today to work with to see if I like water based or not.  I'm thinking that for me in my shop there will be too much waste and problems with wb inks.

It's not unusual for some guy to walk in and talk for over an hour about hunting and fishing and when they do I have to stop everything I'm doing in the back and talk with them with a smile on my face knowing how far behind I'm getting!  Roll Eyes  But, the customer comes first and in this small town all it takes is one person getting mad at you and everyone knows about it.  So, I just shut down and visit.  I enjoy the visits when I'm not trying to get orders out, but...well you all know what I mean.

With wb inks I know I'll have people come in and stay for an hour or so and I'll have to reburn a new screen and start all over because of dried ink, therefore creating more waste.  At least with plastisol I can leave it and just go right back to printing when they leave.

MMM,
That is what ryonet's blurb about the product says.   I use the 147 spraywash to clean plastisol ink off the screens.  Works great but does have a citrus smell to it.  I've got some of Franmar's stuff and honestly can't see any difference in the effects on the environment from what the msds sheets tell me.  I need to try it to see if it works as good as they say it does.

Honestly, I believe the stuff we use in this industry is much safer than stuff we use everyday in our homes like bleach, hair spray, laundry detergents, soap, spray deoderants, oven cleaners, cleaning chemicals, etc. etc. etc.
These are the things that are really polluting things IMHO.....

Now, I'm still kinda leary of discharge inks....ain't too sure I want to mess with that stuff as I already have some minor breathing problems and I don't like the idea of breathing formaldyhide fumes even with them vented outside the building.   Undecided

Thanks for the info
Discharge inks are used to chemical remove the dyes in 100% cotton shirts.  Many of todays designs use a discharge white underbase as it leaves the area printed with the discharge ink white with absoutely no hand whatsoever because it removes the color in the garment.  WB inks are then used to print leaving a super soft hand.
Google it and I'm sure you'll find more info on it.  I don't claim to know much about it, just know it uses formaldyhide to do the discharge process and I'm not sure I want to mess with that.

There is another discharge agent called Thiox (Thiourea Dioxide)  - I've mixed it with an alginate print paste, you don't let it dry and it is steamed to activate..Use all the regular safety equipment, goggles, respirator, gloves. Which I also use if doing extensive discharging with bleach, unless I am outdoors and I might forgo the respirator. And, yes I think some household chemicals are as hazardous as those that are used for some textile processes. I might scare the kids next door with my Darth Vadar outfit, but the results can be so neat.

Looks especially good when I pair it all with my bright yellow polypropylene fish house apron and plastic arm protectors with my black chemical resistant elbow length gloves. Just the stuff to wear in FL in the summer time. Better than any Little Black Dress. I'm a fashionista. Grin Grin Grin

Do you use lye? Closest I have gotten to making soap was to take all my little- can't-hold-them-to-wash-with-anymore pieces and thrown them in a pot with water to make my own liquid soap. Cheesy

I was watching one of those Sunday afternoon sewing shows on PBS one day, and they were doing some bleach out designs on jeans. You know what they used? DISHWASHER SOAP....the gel type. They just used it right from the container (for finer designs, they put some in squeeze bottles with finer tips).....let it sit until it dried, and then rinsed it out.

I haven't tried it yet....mostly because I don't have a dishwasher so I keep forgetting to get dishwasher soap when I'm at the store. Anyhow...I thought that was pretty cool.

When they did it on black jeans, the length of time they left the soap on determined the "color" of the design.

that totally makes sense as the more it bleaches or takes pigment out,, it will go thru those stages,, and be left with the pigments base,,
some blacks have a blue, gray, or gold bases,,, even green,,,,,You will never know what you get untill you start to take that pigment out,,,

MMM, have you heard of Captain Cra-Z Soap?  My hubby is a firm believer and we sell the heck out of the stuff in his store.  It cuts grease like no other.  I ask because our supplier tells me that the company is for sale and he can no longer get this product.  I tried to contact the company via their website to inquire further, but I received no response.  I'm looking for someone who knows the company, or knows the secret recipe, or something....
