I am receiving samples from many sources for imprinting on dark garments.

Lots of testing stuff to do with Image Clip and a new one  from LRI called White Fabric Patch. It can be used with dye sub or heat transfer ink. It is a two step process and the end result can be heat transferred to the garment. It has a very aggressive adhesive on the back that will melt into the textile when heated. Preliminary results show the same hand as vinyl with any number of colors including white. It will outline cut with any vinyl cutter.By adding a 2 or 3 pixel mask under the image and send the mask to the cutter it would cut a perfect outline. A smart person would try to color match the mask to the color of the shirt eliminating any "white" outline.

I will do my best to keep everything documented including what product was tested, the equipment I used, the failures I have already had, who I contacted for advice and the end result.
All of this while moving to a new home and moving into a new store.

Yes, I will get some of that as well. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

If it works, perceived value will take over. People that are savvy don't give a damn what the process cost as long as they perceive it is worth it.

I see garbage hanging all over Tombstone that are made with the Chinaman reject/second tee shirts wholesaled direct out the back door of the truck at the Long Beach docks for over $22. And it still hangs there.

OMG...... I am moving to the BIG city.
Cochise  population 47
McNeal   population 200

I will live across the street from the store which is on the old Hwy 666 AND where Amelia Earhart landed her Avro Avian on her Transcontinental flight in 1929.

Believe me I will make use of both of those tidbits in my stock shirts and other imprintables.

This is my first published result of testing papers for for dark garments.
ANY OPINIONS ARE MINE AND SHOULD BE TAKEN AS THE RESULTS OF MY TESTING WITH MY EQUIPMENT. YOUR RESULTS/OPINION MAY VARY.

White Fabric Patch
Laser Reproductions (web site link below)
Available only in 11 x 17" at this time

For dark goods. I would think a tight weave pre-shrunk garment would be a logical choice.  Print with any transfer process, including inkjet or laser sublimation, as well as CLC and CLP printers, in 2 easy steps! Full sublimation graphics, white included. It will outline cut with a plotter.

http://www.laserreproductions.com/Instructions/WhiteFabricPatch.pdf

This is the best choice yet for small graphics on dark garments. The hand is equal to the Sizer Easy Weed or a similar thin textile vinyl. Five washings, no issues. The imprint was 11 x 10 and the front graphic was 4 x 4.

The adhesive on the back is aggressive and extreme care must be taken not to allow it to come in contact with itself.

I would use wax paper to cover the adhesive as the backing is pulled away. Then with the backing protected, line up the graphic, peel a little of the wax paper off the top, press down onto the garment, continue until it has been place, press as per instructions.
If the graphic has a lot of fill from the shirt color.... that will add to the mass but it still is 1000% better than the plastic feeling options.

Sublimation image created by Artainium ink from a WF1100 printer
Pressed with a Mighty Press clamshell
Temperature for transfer press onto patch 390 degrees
Dwell 45 seconds
Pressure firm
Teflon sheet on top and bottom to protect platens
Temperature for application to garment 390 degrees
Dwell 20 seconds (variation from the mfg instructions of 10 seconds) my edges lifted at 10 seconds. A repress cured the issue and subsequent dwell press at 20 seconds eliminated the issue.
Pressure very firm

Some of you may know that I was testing the wow paper. I had really bad luck with the printer they sent me. Ken is going to take what I have and test it for us. He has a different OKI printer. So I am sending him the remainder of my laser printing stock. He will be able to let us know the result. I will pass this along to the THE MAGIC TOUCH PAPER PEOPLE.
Ken I will try to get it out today.

Thanks Lou.

I'll do my best to give a honest report/test.

I used this product when it first came out with mixed success with a Konica printer. My Oki 6150 is the second most compatible with the Magic Touch process. Time will tell.

The test for today will be Image Clip with a multi colored graphic.

I will also test the wide variety of papers currently offered as they are sent to me.

I apologize to the members for the delay in finalizing my report about the dark papers.

I was totally overwhelmed with all aspects of the move of my household and business plus other issues. I have some hired help now so things are progressing.

I will get back on track with the report ASAP.

IMAGE CLIP KONCERT T 05/09/10

EQUIPMENT:

OKI C6150 LASER WITH AFTERMARKET TONER (GUARANTEED OEM COMPATIBILITY) printer set to bypass tray and Labels II setting.

MIGHTY PRESS 15”

I FOLLOWED THE MFG INSTRUCTIONS to create the “transfer sheet” of simple text WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS: 240 DEGREES AND A DWELL TIME OF 25 SECONDS.
THAT IS WHAT FIT MY EQUIPMENT. You will have to test with your own setup.

To do the final printing I used a setting of 380 degrees, heavy pressure and a dwell time of 30 seconds.

RESULTS

VERY soft hand and WHITE imprint on a BLACK Haynes “Comfort Fit” T 100% cotton. I will conduct further testing to get an absolute set on MY equipment, but this is a winner for plain BLACK graphics or text.

Get a sample pack from Conde or Coastal and print the same text OR GRAPHIC multiple times on the 8 x 11 blue line master sheet.
Cut the images/text into manageable sizes, get your notebook, number each and start printing the transfer sheet. REMEMBER THE MAXIMUM FINAL SIZE OF THE GRAPHIC/TEXT IS 10.75 X 7.75” When you get a consistent transfer every time, repeat the process to create the graphic on the shirt. Take careful notes, you will be expending VERY expensive paper and failure is NOT an option, success is glorious.

This image is actually two imprints on the same shirt at the same time as a control study.

I know this is old, but was wondering if anybody ever got satisfactory results with Magic Touch (WoW) . . .  I saw part of a demo before the DAX show last weekend and I'm curious how it works in real life.
