I also agree with ed,, that sunie has a warranty,, and i cannot remember if it is 2 years or 3,,,,, It sounds like what you need is a upper plate, with heat coals that are not defective,
I wonder if they would ship one of those to you,, and is anyone in your handy that could put it on?

or better yet, if it is under warranty, just remind them of that,, and tell them you are shipping it back and expect to have another one shipped out to you asap...

I am going to get heat strips and measure the heat that way. In the event that my method of measurement is flawed, I would like to have secondary data,if you will to support my claim. If it measures out ok with the heat strips, well..I will just crawl off into a corner and never again speak of this...Charles was most helpful when we spoke this afternoon. Once again the forum to the rescue. Thanks everyone for all your helpful contributions. One day, I hope to grow up and be able to provide the same support. Smiley

Thanks, Dad. In describing my frustrations to my partner - I said- it's like learning to build a house with a bad level and a hammer that breaks when you pound in a nail. Having flawed equipment makes learning a new trade exponentially more difficult. I am , by the way leaning heavily toward the HT400D - reliable, consistent and sturdy.

And well liked by the ones who have the 400 here on the forum. I have a cheap press for now but when I upgrade I am pretty sure it will be a Hix just because of our forum members that swear by them.

Love it. So these get applied to vehicle windows or where .... what size are these? They are really fun. I just got asked by someone to do a decal for his boat of his mothers name. The description of installing it as a vinyl installation job, filled me with great fear. Do you think a decal might be a good alternative?

Jeanne,, a decal is vinyl,,
Most cars have vinyl in one color or layers,,
all are cut out on our vinyl cutters and it is so fun to weed,,
this is also how i do banners,,, and signage,

you can do this,, and sometimes they just want youto cut and they apply the vinyl,,
this is about a 6 inch by 6 inch,,  for a boat, you would use a marine grade of oracle or brand,, that is for boats,,
651 is good for windows,, banners, signs,,
this is for a car window,,
i use 45 blade,, and no adjustment is needed from heat press vinyl

So for instance when you do a banner, what do you apply the vinyl to? Is it another piece of vinyl? Or is the substrate some other type of cloth like material

SunIE. The next chapter. I write a letter outlining my issues with the product as well as with the customer service guy who took my call. Guess who receives, reads and responds to my letter- yes the very same guy. He calls me and guess what he asks me... 'did I follow his suggestions to increase the temp and the time until it smoked'. I feel as though I am either reliving a Sienfield episode or I am being Punked. I asked if anyone else had reviewed the letter. No. I asked him to give the letter to his manager and have that manager call me.The manager is not available. I imagine when and if I send the machine back,, guess who will be "testing" my machine. I explained to him that calling me with the same unacceptable answers that prompted the letter to begin with was just this side of crazy. I tried to explain that increasing the time and the temp caused the transfer to look bad at the center- and scorch around the edges. What I would expect with uneven heat distribution. The heat strips have been ordered. I am just shaking my head - in a bewildered state.

Well, Jeanne, this is the guy you need to talk too,, obviously,, so you need to get his attention,,
Tell him you have tried all his suggestions,, and will be shipping it back,,,and look forward to getting a machine back asap,
I am sure once they have the machine and test it,, they will ship you a new one , and remind him of the warranty, for the machine. That you would like the warranty to start the day you recieve a working machine back,,,
Have him send you a call ship tag,,, if possible so you dont have to pay for shipping,,,
It is time to get thing out of your house,
It sounds like a Refund is not a option , did you ever open a dispute with paypal?

I am officially done with this man. I will speak only to next level up and shoot for the owners in any next conversation. My plan is to test with heat strips. Send back using my shipping discount (thankfully only $35 - ). Selling it for parts is a tempting thought. But you are quite right, it needs to be out of my house - post haste.

Couple of things...Jeanne....don't think you can talk to the 'next man' up as I believe Sunie is composed of one man, one woman...who speaks better English or that is all that I saw when I was at their shop when they were in Carson City. I think they are the owners ...probably husband and wife. If there is any higher up, I would guess they are in China

as to opening a dispute with paypal...I have been that route and you will get no place with paypay UNLESS the purchase is through eBay.  When I had an issue in not getting what I paid for..I got something....just not what I paid for and I was told repeatedly that as long as I got 'something' it was between me and the vendor as they (paypal) could not know what was in the package...it would be one word against another..and if you say you did not get anything, and the vendor says he shipped the item...you are out of luck..ask Lou as he has been through this I believe
